Be smart, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
