Be brilliant, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and across the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
